Historic New Bridge Landing

River Edge is the home of the Bridge That Saved a Nation at the New Bridge Landing historic site. During the Revolutionary War on November 20, 1776 General Washington’s troops retreated across the bridge escaping the British forces. the area served as a battleground, encampment site, military headquarters and intelligence-gathering post throughout the American Revolutionary War.
The Steuben House, Campbell-Christie House and Demarest House are fantastic examples of Dutch sandstone architechture that are maintained by the Bergen County Historical Society.

Parks and Recreation
River Edge has 3 parks available to residents the largest of which is Veterans Memorial Park. Located on Continental Avenue the park features tennis courts, picnic area, pavilion, bathrooms, garden area with benches and horse shoe pits, hand ball court, playground area for toddlers, playground area for 5-12 year olds, lighted basketball courts, hockey rink, Little League baseball fields with concession stand with a half mile walking path. Kenneth B. George Park is located adjacent to the River Edge Swin Club and features fields used for soccer, baseball, and softball. Brookside Park is located at the end of Greenway Terrace and has basketball courts, picnic area,playground, and walking path.
During the course of the year the Borough hosts events at Veteran’s Memorial Park including River Edge Day, Fourth of July parade and fair, and summer camp. The following adult athletic leagues are also available to residents: soccer, softball, volleyball, and basketball. The River Edge Run, a 5K and 10K race is held throughout the borough streets in April.
River Edge Swim Club
Located on Riverside Way, membership is open to all residents but limited with a waiting list. The grounds and pool facility are neatly tucked away on the banks of the Hackensack River and provide a safe, clean, and relaxing atmosphere for people of all ages.
Schools
River Edge is home to 3 public elementary schools schools under the direction of the Board of Education. River Edge is also part of the River Dell Regional Board of Education along with Oradell that runs River Dell Junior and Senior High Schools. Cherry Hill, Roosevelt, and New Bridge Center serve the students of the borough. The Mission Statement reads “The River Edge School District is a partnership of students, parents, staff, and community members. We are dedicated to providing a supportive environment in which all students can reach their maximum academic potential, while developing as responsible citizens who respect individuality.”

River Edge is home to 2 New Jersey Transit train stations. River Edge Station is part of the Pascack Valley Line and is located on River edge Road on the border of New Milford. The New Bridge Landing Station is located on Grand Avenue and is also a part of the Pascack Valley Line.
